Description

On March 11, 2001, 24 commanders of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) entered Mexico City, completing a historic two-week journey that began in the Lacandon Forest of Chiapas.

This episode marked the peak moment of an eccentric movement that gained significant media attention immediately after its outbreak on the first day of 1994, causing discomfort to some and excitement to others.

On this occasion, Ignacio Ramonet met the now-legendary Subcomandante Marcos and discussed with him the significance of this initiative and the future prospects of the Zapatista movement.

The masked leader of the EZLN places the Chiapas Indians' uprising in a broader context, speaking about the marginalization of the poor populations of the South, globalization imposed by an international financial superpower, the resistances encountered almost everywhere, as well as the positive alternative proposals that attempt to be articulated.
