The purpose of this book is to approach certain fundamental aspects of social and ecclesiastical life in light of Orthodox theology. This does not mean that it overlooks Western theology or the issues that occupy it. After all, Orthodox theology is not confessional but universal, which makes its reference to the broader Christian tradition natural.
In this second edition of the book, a chapter titled 'Personal Ethos and Political Responsibility' has been removed, while three new chapters have been added: the fourth, fifth, and eleventh. The first of these has already been published as a standalone article in a collective volume, but here it is presented with significant improvements. Small additions and enhancements have also been made to almost all the other chapters.
We hope that this book, in its new format, will more fully meet the purpose of its writing.
