    For the money, it is excellent. For photos, it is the only lens you will need, as it is much better than the 18-55 that cameras come with in the package, while the zoom up to 200 will satisfy most people. In full zoom and in a room with very low lighting, the result was wonderful. The only downside is that it is not stm, so video with the camera in hand and walking may not have a good final result

    Heavy but also high quality in materials. One thing that someone doesn't notice is that besides having a larger zoom, it is also brighter than the standard 18-55 (of a certain version) that you will get as a KIT with your new Canon. So, in the range of 35mm to 55mm, it gains one stop compared to the regular 18-55 kit (for example, at 50mm it is at f4 instead of f5.6 of the regular 18-55 kit at the same millimeters).

    Its stabilization is very good, but deactivate it when there is enough light, otherwise you will lose a bit in sharpness and it also consumes battery. Its optical quality varies depending on the focal distance and aperture. At f8, it is at its best, I think, like most lenses. Generally, as a telephoto lens, it performs better than equivalent 18-200+ lenses, although the comparison is not easy. However, in the 18-55 range, it is generally sharper than the regular KIT lenses. Ultimately, it is not particularly sharp, but with superzoom lenses, you make such compromises as their virtues are that you carry one lens instead of two (regular zoom and telephoto zoom).

    Finally, because it is an old lens, it is not STM and therefore not suitable for video with AF, as the sound may be heard and not as it should be. In photography, it focuses quickly depending on the body's focusing system.

    Competing lenses are certainly the EF-S 18-135 IS and especially the STM version, which is considered better (and cheaper), albeit slightly lacking in zoom.
