The M.Zuiko 14-42mm zoom lens is an excellent addition to your system if you're looking for a versatile lens that is compact and suitable for a wide range of photographic situations. It is just under 5 centimeters in length and so lightweight that you might forget you're carrying it, weighing only 113 grams.

One of the most interesting features of this lens is Olympus's unique Movie & Still Compatible mechanism, known as MSC. This technology provides incredibly fast and almost silent autofocus operation. You will really notice the benefit when you play back your HD video and the only sound you hear is the ambient noise of the scene you were filming, without hearing the lens moving as it changes focus. This lens is ideal for capturing action. With MSC, you can film a school play or an indoor sports event in low light and achieve excellent results.

Additionally, the lens provides 3x zoom for distant shots and close focus at about 25 centimeters, allowing you to capture details. The mid-range of the lens is equivalent to a 50mm prime, ideal for general photography. The maximum aperture is f3.5 at the wide end, so you will only need a flash in quite low lighting conditions.

    Lightweight and sharp, a very good choice if purchased together with a camera (thus costing around 100€ and offering excellent value for money), but the price is quite high if purchased alone. It is a plastic lens, with a collapsible design (so it needs to be manually extended every time it is used). It has some issues with focusing, as between 20mm and 35mm it often focuses closer than the subject, resulting in a somewhat blurry image, and it does not improve with manual focus.
