Ten contemporary experts, university teachers, linguists, and philologists, along with a 19th-century writer, examine ten fundamental myths of philology surrounding language.

Views that appear in every era as self-evident truths, disregarding linguistic research and primarily linguistic laws, opinions about the decay and death of language, about the lack of language skills among the youth, about the uniqueness of the Greek language, about the impossible teaching of Modern Greek without resorting to Ancient Greek, about rich and poor languages, etc., are examined here through the lens of the relevant science as well as historical experience.

Texts originally published in 'Prosopa' (No. 80, 16.9.2000), the Saturday supplement of 'Nea', along with excerpts from the linguistic study of Emmanouil Roïdis 'Ta eidola', of 1893, aim to refute the myths that contradict the very dynamism of language and hinder a substantial approach to its cultivation.
