Description

The Great Negotiation – Prespa is the chronicle of the discussions aimed at resolving the nearly three-decade-long national issue regarding the name of North Macedonia.

In five discussions-interviews conducted by journalist Serafeim Kotrotsos with former Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias (as part of the show "The Next Day" on ERT1), what transpired in the foreground and background of the negotiations between the governments of Greece and North Macedonia is depicted.

The journalist asks, and the Foreign Minister answers, unraveling the thread of the most exciting diplomatic story of the last decades, which culminated in the historic Prespa Agreement.

Unknown moments from the Kotzias-Dimitrov talks and the interactions between the two prime ministers regarding the framework and content of the name negotiation, guarantees, and constitutional changes in the northern neighbor are also described.

There is also extensive reference to how the two governments addressed the impact on the internal political affairs of both countries.

In these interviews, Nikos Kotzias analyzes the strategy he followed, the obstacles and problems that arose, and how they were overcome, while a revealing review of previous attempts to resolve the dispute since the early '90s is also presented.

The book is complemented by a comprehensive Appendix by N. Kotzias, which analyzes the methodological and factual issues of the negotiation and the alternatives that existed at each moment.

This book effectively serves as a “negotiation manual” and a “memoir” of the most interesting diplomatic history in the modern domestic and international - Balkan and European - arena.

It is an essential resource for any citizen who wants to be fully informed about what truly happened on the path to the Prespa Agreement and what the significance and prospects of this agreement are.

Interesting reference with unfortunately not 100% Greek success. Of course, those from the right side of the chair will never admit this, as deep down they are flipping out that someone managed to take responsibility away from them, apart from those who sell patriotism, and of course the agreement is much better than what they themselves would have expected.
