Description

"Irish businessman pays handsomely, in American dollars, to meet a fairy, dwarf, or elf," read the advertisement posted on the Internet by Artemis Fowl. Young Artemis possesses the intelligence of Sherlock Holmes, the insight of Hercule Poirot, the skills of James Bond, and is adept with new technologies. He is a true genius! He devises the most ambitious plan ever imagined by the human mind with unpredictable consequences for everyone... Following the path opened by J.K. Rowling with Harry Potter and Philip Pullman with His Dark Materials, comes Eoin Colfer, the author who made a sensation at last year's Frankfurt Book Fair, to shake up the waters of world literature with a "high-tech" book, full of imagination, magic, and Irish mythology.

The story begins many years ago, at the dawn of the 21st century. Artemis Fault had devised a plan to restore his family’s fortune that threatened to destroy civilizations and lead the planet into a war between species. He was only twelve years old.

CITY OF HO CHI MINH, summer; unbearable heatwave. Needless to say, Artemis Fault wouldn't put himself through such hardship if something very important and decisive for his terrible plan wasn't at stake. The sun didn't suit Artemis. The light didn't match his appearance at all. The endless hours in front of computers had dulled the glow of his skin. He was as white as a vampire, and he was bothered by the daylight.

"I hope, Butler, that we’re not wasting our time again," he said softly and sharply. "Especially after Cairo." It was a gentle rebuke — a messenger of Butler had sent them unjustly to Egypt. "No, sir. This time I am sure. Guyen is a good person." "Hmm..." mumbled Artemis, indicating he was not convinced.
