Description & Specifications

This study seeks to approach historically one of the prerequisites for the acceptance of nationalities during the two early Christian centuries, from the establishment of the Church, for their inclusion in the order of catechumens, as this prerequisite was formulated by Hippolytus in his work "Apostolic Tradition," and indeed in relation to his claim that his entire work is a reflection of the Church's tradition prior to him.

This prerequisite concerns whether the candidate for catechesis was not allowed to be in a state of monogamous, of course, concubinage. The difficulty of this endeavor lies in the fact that the Church's tradition prior to Hippolytus addresses this specific prerequisite of Hippolytus with silence, which necessitates the investigation of the issue using the method of argumentum e silentio.

However, since the topic has broader interest, both for the ancient Church and for the present day, particularly for the Missionary Church, where the social phenomenon of concubinage surrounds it in all its forms, we emphasize that it was worth the effort to conduct this research and study.
