Description

After the twelve "Recital" for Solo guitar that have been released for many years by "Panas Music", we decided together with the publishers Kostas Papagrigoriou - Harilaos Naka and our collaborator Dimitrios Doulias to create a new series of books for two guitars under the general title "Dodekachordon".

The first two books from "Dodekachordon" contain exclusively my compositions and arrangements. Most of these works have Greek (Eastern) roots and many are based on melodies by top Greek composers, such as Vasilis Tsitsanis (Taxim, Hamam, Cloudy Sunday), Markos Vamvakaris (Flowers in the field), Mikis Theodorakis (Fedra), Manos Hatzidakis (Song for Manos), as well as foreign composers such as George Gershwin (Summertime) and Villa Lobos (Rock Study No 2).

The first works I wrote for the two guitars are the two large suites based on the music of Manos Hatzidakis (A song for Manos) and The Beatles (Let it Beatles), which were initially released on three CDs by Lyra and later by "Legend". They will be released in sheet music format, included in our new series "Dodekachordon" by "Panas Music".
My journey with the two guitars started in 1989, when Maro Razi and I created the Guitar Duo. It was the time when my radio show "Play it with a guitar" on the B program of the Radio had ended, with the subtitle "Nothing better than a guitar, except maybe two".
I always believed that two guitars were better than one, not only for psychological reasons (that it is better to play music together with someone else), but also for musical reasons, as the charm of the guitar is enriched with three basic advantages. Its intensity, range, and polyphony increase.
