The New Frontiers board game by Rio Grande Games is a strategic game in which players build galactic empires by choosing actions. The player who chooses an action gains its benefit, while the development tiles are determined at the start of the game and influence strategic planning. Worlds acquired have special abilities and require colonists to settle, unless acquired through payment or conquest.

Each game includes a predefined combination of development tiles, with 16 recommended combinations for the first game. Some worlds provide goods immediately, while others do so when the production action is chosen. Goods can be traded or consumed for victory points. The game ends when one or more of four ending conditions are met, and the player with the most victory points wins.
