Sigmund Bauman, in conversation with Italian journalist Tomas Leoncini, describes aspects of the lifestyle of Millennials, people born after 1980, who are often referred to as "Generation Y." The great Polish thinker, in his latest text, talks about how Generation Y relates to its body, social networks, and the transformations of the public sphere.
Bauman highlights and comments on several phenomena of the second or "liquid" modernity, where nothing is permanent, stable, and continuous, and where human relationships are based on the "network" – and are described as "networking." Born Liquid is in a way also a small introduction to Bauman's work on consumer society – as a mechanism for creating waste (both of objects and people) – on the internet – as a mechanism for false relationships – as well as generally on the modern state and globalization.
