Description

"...the century that elapsed since the start of the Greek Revolution was marked by great hardships: military movements, government overthrows, constitutional changes, dethronements of kings, bankruptcies, wars, divisions. However, even more difficult times followed immediately after the completion of the centenary: on the 101st anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the Greek army was deployed deep inside Asia Minor; on the 102nd, this army had not only been crushed, but additionally almost 1,000,000 refugees had flocked to the Greek state..."

The book dissects a century of modern Greek history, aiming to demonstrate that the internal political developments and the diplomatic orientations of the Greek state were interconnected vessels and, consequently, fields not merely influencing each other, but absolutely interdependent. The demand for the territorial expansion of the tiny Greek state was ultimately decisive for its character, its position in the international environment, and its very existence.
