Out there is the world with all its vastness; it exists independently of us human beings, towering before us like a great, eternal puzzle, which we can at least partially approach through examination and reasoning. Reflecting on this world invites liberation. During my childhood, I noticed that many of the people I had learned to appreciate and admire had found inner peace and security in this pursuit. The mental perception of this – surpassing the personal – world within the framework of our abilities was presented to my mind, partly consciously, partly unconsciously, as the ultimate goal. People from the present and the past with similar motives, as well as the knowledge they had acquired, were the friends that could not be lost.
