The Byzantine Empire was going through tragic moments in 626 AD. In Trapezunt and the surrounding areas, Emperor Heraclius fought with great heroism, and although his army was small and weak, he fiercely defended the provinces of Armenia and the Caucasus from the incursions of Khosrow's troops, the king of the Persians.
The raging wave of the Persian army then threatened the entire Asia. Another part of Khosrow's army was besieging Chalcedon, led by the notorious Sarabar, known as the 'royal boar'. The warriors were so close to Constantinople that they only needed to cross the Bosphorus to attack it.
And while the situation was already so critical, another terrible piece of news arrived to worsen it. A barbaric and pagan tribe, the Avars, who had settled many years ago on the banks of the Danube, set out to conquer Constantinople. Their leader was the bloodthirsty Khagan who immediately allied himself with the Persian Khosrow, known as the 'king of kings'.
