A holy figure of the century that has passed, a saintly figure who transplanted the asceticism of Russian traditions and the deep spirituality of Athonite monasticism to England is presented in a unique way through the pages of this book.
The author opens her heart to reveal some aspects of the personality of Elder Sophrony of Essex, as she explains them, to show us some reflections of his luminous journey from earth to heaven.
Those who came to know the Elder by reading his books now have the opportunity to know him through some simple incidents from his daily life, but they also have the chance to realize that the spirituality emanating from his works is the same as that which flows from his life.
Those who had the blessing to know Elder Sophrony personally will recall, as they read the following pages, their own experiences and memories of the venerable and blessed Elder.
And along with them, I too, who first met him thirty years ago, then a young clergyman, at the Archdiocese of Thyateira, where I served.
(Bishop Panteleimon of Veria and Naousa) [Excerpt from the foreword]
