The impetus for this publication in volume 96 of the scientific series CRIMINAL LAW was two significant meetings organized in Athens: firstly, the informative meeting of Eurojust in May 2018, and secondly, the International Conference on the European Public Prosecutor, organized at the initiative of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Ms. Xenia Dimitriou-Vasilopoulou, in November 2018.
At these meetings, presentations were made by the responsible prosecutorial and judicial authorities, and it was deemed useful to include in this publication those that could be transcribed, so that it would serve as a valuable guide not only for the practitioners of law but also for the entire legal community.
From this position, we thank –each one individually– all those who contributed to this effort and would like to point out that the jurisdiction of the European Public Prosecutor's Office is expected to expand soon, under Article 86(4) of the TFEU, to include crimes of terrorism that affect more than one member state as part of the enhanced European response to terrorist threats.
Timely exchange of information and coordinated investigations to combat the crime of terrorism are an integral part of this enhanced European response, which is expected to operate within clear legal frameworks.
