Henri Rene Albert de Maupassant was born in Normandy in 1850 and died in Paris in 1893. He began writing at the age of thirteen and continued to work intensively until the end of his life.
His works include six novels, eight plays, several poetry collections, many essays, articles, and travel narratives, and most importantly, over three hundred short stories. His short stories, initially published in the newspapers and magazines of the time, brought him into contact with a wide reading audience, and thanks to his elegant, concise, and insightful writing, he established himself as an exceptional stylist in the minds of his compatriots.
In the following short stories, the Algerian landscape, the scorching sun of Africa, and the impenetrable Arab soul, as seen through the eyes of a European, dominate.
