Description

"Mind your own business. Don't listen and above all, don't speak. Otherwise"... Otherwise, what? Giannis, a ten-year-old boy living in Trikala, doesn't quite understand what's happening. But he knows something is going on. Otherwise, why would his mother be so anxious and say that even the walls have ears? Why would she close the windows like someone being chased when his father tunes in to foreign radio stations? Why must they keep silent "to avoid trouble"? With great difficulty, she told him that there is a Dictatorship. That those who disagree with it are punished. Fortunately, Giannis has his diary. The wonderful, large diary with the lock that his father gave him. There, he will write all his thoughts without fearing anyone. And maybe one day, Democracy will return. A book about the years of the Dictatorship. --- As far as I know, it is the first children's book on the theme of resistance during the seven-year period. A ten-year-old boy, Giannis, observes and records (literally a good find, the diary) life at home, at school, in the community. The book vividly describes the effects of the dictatorship on individuals with the shredding of their personalities, on institutions with the unraveling of authority, on morality with the attempt to create traitors. Without blatant slogans, a quality resistance atmosphere is presented. The entire book is an anti-war and resistance sermon, a hymn to democracy. Kalliopi Moustaka, To Vima, 23.12.1976
