As a fan of narrative videogames, I couldn't resist giving the walking dead series a chance. The truth is, I didn't expect much from the game, but it pleasantly surprised me! First of all, I have to mention that I haven't watched the TV series. The Walking Dead The Telltale Definitive Series includes all four seasons of the game along with all the DLCs.

The game's strong point is its story. In the first season, you take on the role of Lee Everett, a convict who randomly encounters Clementine, a little girl who is home alone waiting for her parents during the zombie outbreak. Together, they will face many dangers and dilemmas. Will they be able to come out unscathed from this difficult mission? What will happen next, as well as in the following seasons of the game, I will let you discover for yourselves.

In terms of gameplay, the objective is to explore the environment in order to find various items that will help you progress in later areas. Additionally, at various points in the game, you will be forced to quickly press a button multiple times to escape obstacles or zombies (quick time events). Furthermore, the choices you are called upon to make will affect your relationships with other characters.

In the technical aspect, as the seasons progress, the game constantly evolves and improves, both in terms of sound and graphics, which resemble a comic book (I will include some pictures at the end) and fit perfectly with the game's style.

At this point, I would like to emphasize that The Walking Dead has a highly atmospheric, emotional, and nostalgic soundtrack. It is also positive that the protagonist (Clementine) as well as the secondary characters have a steady and smooth development throughout all the seasons. Telltale managed to create characters that you will bond with, love, and even hate. Each character represents the individuals of a group: the ambitious, the miserable, the suspicious, and the cunning. In the first season, Clementine appears as an innocent, shy, and frightened little girl who trembles at the sight of a weapon, but she evolves into a tough, brave, and self-aware survivor with a leadership role who will do everything to protect the people she loves and the place she lives in. Personally, Clementine became one of my favorite characters, if not the favorite.

However, there are also some negative aspects in the series. For me, the biggest "thorn" is the fact that some things in the game are inevitable. Some battles and decisions, although they seem important, ultimately lead to the same outcome, regardless of what you choose. In my opinion, this aspect should have been handled differently. I also want to mention that there are some frame drops and minor bugs, but they are very minimal (mostly in the fourth season) and are not enough to ruin the experience.

For those interested in trophies, you can earn the platinum trophy by completing all the seasons of the game, as well as the DLCs. The duration of each season is around 7 to 8 hours, which is ideal in my opinion, without any dull moments. I also want to mention that the game leaves some questions unanswered regarding the fate of various characters. Regarding the information, I would like to mention that I noticed various points throughout the game where The Last of Us Part 2 has been influenced by them and has adapted them to its own story. Those who have played both games will understand.
Overall, I believe that The Walking Dead is a hidden gem from Telltale (which unfortunately closed down). For me, The Walking Dead and The Last of Us portray in an extremely realistic way what a zombie apocalypse scenario would be like, without exaggerations and fantastical elements. I highly recommend it to everyone, whether you are a fan of narrative games or not. One last piece of advice for those who purchase the game, play for up to an hour at a time, that way you will enjoy it more. Personally, I played for one hour every day from 9 to 10 in the evening. This specific title is the swan song of the Telltale company. It includes all seasons of The Walking Dead series along with the DLC. This series, and especially the amazing reception of the first season, has greatly changed the gaming landscape. In this particular game, you don't encounter classic puzzles and exploration is not a major part of the gameplay. Instead, everything is focused on interacting with other characters. There is a lot of use of QTE (quick time event/press a specific button quickly) when your character is in a crucial moment. The graphics are unique as the style resembles a comic book. I will only mention the first season to avoid spoilers for the next ones, but it is also a representative sample for the rest.

The story revolves around Lee and Clementine. The former is a convict who escapes when the first signs of zombies appear, and the latter is a little girl searching for her parents. The goal of survival unites the story and their journey. Throughout the journey, they will be faced with difficult decisions in order to survive. The strongest aspect of the game is the moral dilemmas and tough decisions that arise along the way. The game is filled with characters with rich backgrounds that make the decisions even more challenging, and seemingly lead you in different directions. The fact that there is no black and white, good and evil, especially in this genre of game, was groundbreaking and paved the way for games like Detroit Become Human and Beyond Two Souls. If you truly love a rich story, then this is an excellent choice.

Of course, I must also mention the negatives. Initially, the biggest flaw in this series is the apparent choice. At that moment, you do indeed face a dilemma and struggle to decide as the game has created the necessary connection. However, when you see all the different possibilities, you usually come to the conclusion that it's the same thing with different faces. This is the reason why the company failed and closed down, as they did not evolve the depth of the games by adding substantial differences to the outcome of the stories. In Detroit, each step unlocks one path and cuts off another, while here your movement feels like zigzagging. Additionally, there are still bugs, nothing serious (you can skate on the wall by pushing the character in that direction for a long time, you may encounter small pieces in the image that do not load correctly), but when we talk about definitive editions, there shouldn't be anything.

In summary, this specific title includes all seasons along with the DLC of a very good series focused on story and interaction. Many times, one will be puzzled, saddened, and possibly cry during some of the very powerful stories included. It is not perfect, but it is a very good choice. I do not recommend it for children under 14, as well as for people who prefer action. The total duration of the entire package is 40-50 hours. Finally, while each season had a different platinum trophy when it was released (except for the second one), the whole package only contains one.
