Initially, I was surprised by the relatively limited range (17-28) compared to the more common 16-35mm. However, when I attached it to the camera (A7r II), I understood why Tamron chose a smaller zoom than its competitors. The lens performs exceptionally well at the most useful focal lengths (17-24mm), even wide open at f/2.8, throughout the frame, unlike the Sony 16-35mm f/4, which requires stopping down the aperture significantly to achieve satisfactory resolution at the edges.
It is brighter (f/2.8), lighter (~420g), and sharper than the Sony 16-35mm f/4, which is its direct competitor. It lacks image stabilization, which doesn't bother me personally because the A7R II has in-body stabilization.
At the wide end, there is a 1mm difference; the 16mm is noticeably wider than the 17mm, but I prefer the better optical performance at 17mm over the mediocre performance at 16mm.
At 28mm, it is somewhat soft compared to the shorter focal lengths, but personally, it doesn't bother me much because it performs excellently where I need it the most (17-20mm).
Overall, it is a very balanced lens, performing well in all aspects and achieving this while being f/2.8 and lightweight

The only negative thing I can say is that I would have liked it to reach up to 35mm or around that range.

Αρχικά με παραξένεψε το σχετικά περιορισμένο εύρος (17-28) σε σχέση με το πιο συνηθισμένο 16-35mm
Όταν όμως τον κούμπωσα στη μηχανή (Α7r II) κατάλαβα γιατί η Tamron επέλεξε μικρότερο zoom από τους ανταγωνιστές.
Ο φακός αποδίδει εξαiρετικά στα πιο χρήσιμα εστιακά μηκη (17-24mm) ήδη από τέρμα ανοιχτός στο f/2.8 σε όλο το κάρδο, σε αντίθεση με τον Sony 16-35mm f/4 που θέλει να ρίξεις αρκετά το διάφραγμα για να είναι ικανοποιητική η ανάλυση στα άκρα.
Είναι πιο φωτεινός (f/2.8), πιο ελαφρύς (~420gr) και πιο οξύς από τον Sony 16-35mm f/4 που είναι ο άμεσος ανταγωνιστής του. Του λείπει ο σταθεροποιητής που εμένα δεν με πειράζει γιατί η A7R II έχει σταθεροποιητή στο σώμα.
Στο ευργώνιο άκρο το 1mm έχει διαφορά, το 16mm είναι αισθητά πιο ευρυγώνιο από το 17mm αλλά προτιμώ την καλύτερη οπτική απόδοση στα 17 παρά τη μέτρια στα 16mm
Στα 28mm είναι κάπως soft σε σχέση με τα μικρότερα εστιακή μήκη αλλά πρoσωπικά δεν με απασχολεί ιδιαίτερα αφού αποδίδει υπέροχα εκεί που το θέλω πιο πολύ (17-20mm)
Συνολικά είναι πολύ ισορροπημένος φακός, αποδίδει καλά παντού και το καταφέρνει όντας f/2.8 και ελαφρύς
I bought it almost a month ago from a store in Thessaloniki for €999. I have used it for 2-3 video projects and several photos with the Full Frame A7III, and it is truly worth the money. It is quite wide as a zoom lens, and its positive features include weather sealing, its lightweight, sharpness, and fast autofocus in low light conditions. The only negative thing I can say is that I would have liked it to reach up to 35mm or around that range.
Τον αγόρασα σχεδόν ενα μήνα πριν απο ένα κατάστημα στην Θεσσαλονίκη στα 999€. Τον έχω χρησιμοποιήσει σε 2-3 δουλειές για βίντεο και σε αρκετές φωτογραφίες με την Full Frame A7III και αξίζει πραγματικά τα χρηματά του. Αρκετά wide σαν φακός ζουμ στα θετικά του το weather sealing που έχει,το μικρό βάρος του και η οξύτητά του , καθώς και η γρήγορη εστίαση σε συνθήκες χαμηλού φωτισμού. Αρνητικά το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι ότι θα μου άρεσε αν έφτανε μέχρι τα 35mm ή εκεί γύρω πάνω κάτω.
