Krishnamurti's interest in education has long been known. In England, in the late 1960s, a school was established at Brockwood Park in Hampshire. The first part of this book includes talks and discussions between Krishnamurti and the students and staff of the school in Brockwood, where Krishnamurti lived when visiting England.
Particular emphasis is placed on the need to learn about the problems of life, such as relationships. “When we stop learning from our relationships, whether by studying or playing or doing anything else, and simply act based on our accumulated knowledge, then disorder ensues.” Krishnamurti discusses many practical problems that concern young people living together in a community without accepted authority – issues of dependence and cooperation, imitation and compliance, order and freedom, sexuality, action without conflict, love, responsibility, and care. These lively discussions relate to both practical, everyday issues as well as more general problems.
The second part of the book consists of dialogues with parents and teachers. Krishnamurti, over the past decades, had repeatedly visited the schools he had established in India and often refers to them. Other discussions take place in America, particularly in California, where he had given talks at several universities and had discussions with individual students and educators.
