This volume gathers studies and articles on Greek traditional culture, which sometimes take an essay form, as the title of the book suggests.

These texts refer to language, customs, traditions, folk songs, popular poetry, as well as history, methodology, and the sources of Greek folklore.

Folklore today, renewed but also respectful of its tradition, is at the forefront of research in our homeland, and this volume aims to contribute, as much as possible, to this development, which is part of the "New Greek Folklore," to which the published series is dedicated.

The effort to follow the methodological paths and approaches of the new folkloric movement is what forms a cohesive bond among the texts included in this book.
