It was used in an NZXT H7 Flow case with a CoolerMaster MOBIUS 140P fan, which was installed upside down, at the back of the case to push air towards the radiator placed on the top side of the case. Of course, no case has filters there, so it was used to "block" any dust that could enter. The filter has holes to attach it with the fan when tightened (extra screws are included inside the filter), and it has quite strong magnets so you can also install it without screwing. In terms of fan performance and sound difference, there is absolutely no difference with or without the filter.
