I don't understand why there is so much hype about this camera given its price. The only good thing is that it fits in your pocket. Other than that, I don't see any reason for anyone to pay €1000 to buy it, when there are other much better cameras for less money on the market. If it cost €400-500 I would say ok, but €1000? You can't even change lenses, so what's the point of investing so much money in such a camera? For €750 I got the r50 which is far superior, just ok, they have a big difference in size. But I believe that the quality of the photos is more important than the size! Yet another trend that managed to increase the price of the product for no real reason.

It is a very good product for street photography. It has a decent sensor. It definitely doesn't have the body of an entry DSLR, for example, but it has nothing to envy. It is small, lightweight with amazing grip in hand. It takes very good photos, especially during the day. At night, everyone faces issues. The AF is very good!!! If you are tired of the weight of a DSLR (and annoyed by clueless people), you see photography in a different way and don't want (yet) to switch to the Ricoh GR III, this is your camera. You can also carry it comfortably everywhere. The only downside is the battery. It is necessary to have a second one for trips and long hours on the road.

I have tried many cameras, this one may be the best that does everything to a very good degree and fits in your pocket. Aperture is amazing, stabilization is very good, ND filter is very useful, rotating screen, internal and external microphones, slow motion, zoom and many other good things... it's worth it, yes.

Amazing camera!! WITH SO MANY MENUS!!! It's not by chance the best compact camera. The lens with f/1.8 aperture leaves behind the latest Sony RX100 photos because they have f/2.8. USB-C that charges while it's functioning!!! The stabilizer is like having a gimbal!! I also have a mirrorless camera with lenses but this one has saved me. As some say, the best camera is the one you can always have with you.

As for the focus, now with the new firmware, it works perfectly. Be aware that they released another firmware in September with new cool things!

This one has the same sensor as the g7x mark ii, so you will have the same good results. It is of course much better than most smartphones with immediate response and pocket size.

What makes it special compared to most cameras in its category is the 3.5 mic input for adding a microphone. It could have been the perfect camera, but Canon decided to remove the dual pixel autofocus and the funny thing is that it has worse autofocus in video than the previous model!!.. I really don't know how they managed to do that and it's also at this price. However, a firmware update was recently added that makes it much faster in finding the object you're asking for, but it has hunting and reminds me of a Panasonic system with contrast-based autofocus. Its stabilization is very good.

In short, I believe it is an excellent camera and a mediocre video camera, but it is at an incredibly high price. The equivalent Sony zv1 has unbeatable autofocus as well as the flip-out screen for almost the same price. Also, the a6400 is close in price and can't even be compared, it is much superior in everything.

I think it is much preferable if you want a Canon and this type of camera and you don't care so much about the external microphone to go for the mark ii, which also has a much lower price
