Description

The Balvenie Doublewood is a  12-year-old Single Malt from a distillery that has been crafting its spirits since 1892, using exclusively its own barley in a  handcrafted manner. During its maturation period, The Balvenie Double Wood is transferred from the traditional oak barrels in which it initially matured, to Spanish oak barrels that were previously used for sherry maturation.  Each of these two stages imparts different virtues to The Balvenie Double Wood: the traditional barrels, having previously housed bourbon, soften the whisky and give it character, while the sherry barrels add depth and richness to the flavor.

Aroma: Notes of ripe & sweet fruits, sherry,  vanilla and honey.

Why DoubleWood 12 Will Become Your Favorite Premium Choice:

  • You enjoy a unique complexity thanks to its "double life": the first 12 months in traditional Bourbon barrels give it smoothness and sweet vanilla, while the finish in Sherry barrels adds depth and rich fruity aromas.
  • You feel the velvety sensation of honey and caramel embracing your palate, creating a rounded and perfectly balanced flavor profile that never becomes tiring.
  • You stand out with a whisky that bears the "signature" of the legend David Stewart, offering a result so refined that it appeals equally to new explorers and experienced Single Malt enthusiasts.
  • You experience a long and gentle aftertaste that leaves a subtle sensation of sweet spices and wood, making every moment of enjoyment last longer.

Your Flavorful Journey:

  • Nose: Welcomed by sweet notes of vanilla, ripe fruits, and a hint of raisins and freshly cut oak.
  • Palate: A full flavor of honey and nuts, harmoniously blended with cinnamon and the subtle character of sherry.
  • Finish: Long, warm, and smooth, with an aftertaste reminiscent of sweet spices.

Technical Specifications:

  • Type: Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
  • Origin: Speyside, Scotland.
  • Aging: 12 Years (Double Wood Maturation).
  • Casks: First-fill Bourbon & Oloroso Sherry Casks.
  • Alcohol: 40%.

    A honey/bronze journey!
From the very first "whiff" you perceive the intense sweetness from the notes of vanilla, honey, and dried fruits.
Taste-wise, it enters with a small explosion of honey sweetness, vanilla follows immediately after, and it culminates in a slightly spicy sherry flavor. Whispers of baked apple appear after a few minutes in the glass.
Its aftertaste is not long-lasting, but it retains the initial characteristics and fades very pleasantly with honey. Serve neat or with just a few drops of water.
In conclusion, it is a must, at an affordable price for a 12-year-old, that every enthusiast should try.

Perhaps I am one of the few who consider it overrated. The price does not match its quality, minimal body, short aftertaste, generally invisible. Having tried it, I place it ten steps below Glendronach and Glenallachie.

It is a decent whiskey when compared to other cheap whiskeys. However, I find it average in all aspects. It doesn't offer anything special in aroma and taste, but it doesn't leave anything unpleasant either. Its aftertaste is below average. If its price were around €40-45, I would give it 4 stars with the reasoning that it is "drinkable," but at €60+, it is not justified. The aesthetics of the bottle are good!

Well personally, until today it is perhaps the best whiskey I have ever tasted, without having tried many big brands. Sherry, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, and a hint of orange are what I understand. It is sweet but not too sweet, so someone who doesn't go crazy for very sweet whiskey won't have a problem. It is also quite smooth in the mouth and burns imperceptibly. I would say that it is a very good whiskey for its price, personally I found it for 55 euros at the supermarket. If I had to describe it in one word, I would say it is excellently balanced. Must buy...

Quite sweet, without overpowering the sweetness element. However, it makes it very enjoyable to drink without being "watery". The combination of flavors and "weight" is ideal for my taste.

Wonderful malt in nose, taste and aftertaste. Aromas of vanilla and dried fruits with long duration. Typical Speyside, it is the benchmark of this category. The best value for money whisky in Balvenie's mainstream range and one of the most classic and recognizable 12-year-olds worldwide.
