It is often said that during war, everything is forgiven even if it shouldn't be; this is also an aphorism used to cover up brutal crimes, like the one committed in the village of Kommeno in Arta on August 16, 1943, by German occupation forces.
Civilians and innocents, a total of 317, were executed in a horrific manner, without justification, by the barbaric occupier: men and women of all ages, teenagers, and infants became victims of a "cleansing operation" that had no pretext of vengeance.
H. F. Mayer systematically researched, gathered testimonies from the very perpetrators of the tragedy, and found relevant documents in the Wehrmacht archives.
