When we tried to classify "Paper War" into a theatrical genre, for the sake of press releases and promoting the performance, we found ourselves in a very sweet embarrassment. After three years of working on the text and four months of rehearsals, it was not easy for us to say that the play belongs to a specific genre. Drama or comedy? These concepts, in any case, are more often intertwined and interoperate in modern theatrical writing than separated.
Police drama? Definitely not just that. Family drama with thriller elements? Perhaps, but still not exactly. I do not mean to imply that the play succeeds in being everything. It was simply not just a play for those directly creatively involved. It was a labor of years in which we invested work and hopes, with the stipulation that everyone would give their best and, if necessary, exceed their creative limits – and indeed before the premiere.
