The action of the story takes place between 1199 and 1207. It is the time when Venice initially has trade relations with the Greek islands, but later fights to conquer them.
The book describes the passionate love, as well as the atmosphere of the time, where "the merchants of nations" stop at nothing in order to acquire money, glory, and beautiful women.
The heroes of the book are:
- the lord of Naxos, Giannis Mouhras
- his beautiful wife, Augusta
- the Venetian lord, Marco Sanoutos
Mouhras, during an attack against the enemies, is in serious danger. He escapes from danger with the help of Marco Sanoutos. After this, he invites Sanoutos to his home to thank him. However, there, Sanoutos encounters the beautiful Augusta and becomes enchanted by her.
What will he do? Will he try to win her over? Or will he respect her husband, who offered him hospitality? And what consequences will his choice have?
The simplified version of the book is suitable for foreign students who are learning Greek as a second/foreign language, mainly for students at an intermediate level of language proficiency (B1-B2), according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) of the Council of Europe.
