The study examines briefly the history of the Latin and Greek states after the Fall of Constantinople by the Latins in 1204, the events up to the conquest of Trebizond in 1461, the coinage and economy of the late Byzantine period, the events of the two Byzantine civil wars of the 14th century, the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, the universities of the Palaiologos era, and the Byzantine intellectuals in the West.
