Demosthenes and his opponent Aeschines were members of the embassy to Philip, the result of which was the Peace of Philocrates in 346 BC.
The disappointment that followed the peace is captured in Demosthenes' speech on the "false embassy," where he accuses Aeschines of the negative developments for Athens.
