Description & Specifications

After the publication of Volume 1, titled: “Topics and Answers from the National Student Astronomy and Space Competitions,” which included the first decade of the competitions, we decided that we should publish Volume 2 before the second decade ended, for two main reasons:

First, because during this time an abundance of astronomical material from competitions has accumulated, as now there are four phases of the competitions instead of two (the addition of the 1st phase “EUDOXUS” and the 4th phase “PTOLEMY”), with more topics in each competition. Furthermore, topics from the Middle School Competition have been added, which did not exist in Volume 1, as the Competition for Middle School had not yet been established. This is why this volume, although it includes 7 competitions (11th, from 2006 to 17th, from 2012), has double the pages of Volume 1.

The second reason is the eagerness of both Middle School students who want to have samples of the topics intended for them since there were no such topics in Volume 1, as this competition was not taking place at that time, and of High School students who also wanted to know the topics that are included in the 4th phase “Ptolemy,” so that they can appropriately prepare for the Olympiads.

Otherwise, we could reiterate everything we presented in Volume 1 regarding the usefulness of this volume as well. That is, it is useful for older students who excelled in the competitions, as their names and photos are showcased within it. It is useful for every astronomy enthusiast, as its topics are diverse and cover the entire spectrum of various branches of Astronomy. Even though some answers are provided by the top-performing students, they are scientifically justified and entirely correct. And much more.

Therefore, we hope that with this new book, we offer a valuable resource to Middle School and High School students who want to expand their astronomical knowledge and acquire the necessary skills for a successful effort in future national competitions.

They should always know that knowledge is profit, and astronomical knowledge is particularly profitable, as it combines many sciences, from Physics and Mathematics to Astrophysics, Astrochemistry, Astrobiology, and other modern sciences.
