The "Eudemian Ethics" is the first of the three ethical treatises by Aristotle (the other two are the "Nicomachean Ethics" and the "Eudemian Ethics"). The name "Eudemian" was given because it was published by Eudemus of Rhodes, Aristotle's most esteemed student, or, according to others, because the philosopher dedicated this treatise to Eudemus.

This treatise consists of seven books and its content is strictly ethical; it is not connected to politics, which is the case in the "Nicomachean Ethics." The "Eudemian Ethics" also has a religious dimension. In these works, true virtue is rooted in religion and is an expression of the commandment and inspiration of an overhuman rational being.

This peculiarity reflects Aristotle's Platonic heritage or, according to others, Stoic influence.
