After swearing to eliminate the great inequalities that exist, they rename the farm Animal Farm and reorganize it for the benefit of all. All the animals imagine this is the beginning of a life with freedom, equality, and justice. However, gradually, a ruthless elite begins to take charge. Soon the other animals realize that they are not as equal as they initially thought and come to understand that they are trapped in a new form of tyranny.
The ideals of the revolution are distorted and forgotten. And then, something new and unexpected appears… “It is the story of a revolution that went wrong…” Orwell stated about the first edition of Animal Farm in 1945. Orwell wrote this novel in late 1943, but it almost went unpublished; his harsh attack on Stalin, who was an ally of Britain at the time, led to its rejection by publishers.
Since then, this fascinating, tragic allegory has become a classic read throughout the world.
