The Ionian Islands, in their geographical connection from north to south, separated from the Greek mainland, are united in a solitary entity surrounded by their nurturing sea, creating a singular, always Greek culture.
By naming it the Ionian, in recent centuries, we highlight the characteristics of a particularly significant part of our modern Greek culture. The Seven Islands, with their contribution to art, literature, and the struggles for freedom, affirm the right to their uniqueness. The inhabitants of the Ionian Islands continue to embody this: behavior, spirit, language, customs.
Our land has thus far defined our roots and our essence. Its image never fades within us. Every representation of it, primarily through art, has been a gift to history, as well as a doorway to the nostalgia of each of us.
