Description

Description

The G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB DDR4 RAM is aimed at demanding computer users, such as gamers, professionals in video and image editing, designers, and those who require high performance from their computer.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and capacity.

It offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, latency (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 32GB per memory module.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the larger the size we choose, the better performance we will have in our system, while for latency (CL), we want the smallest size for the speed (MT/s) we have chosen.

The above characteristics should be compatible with the specifications of our motherboard.

The Trident Z RGB provides a speed of 3600MT/s, with CL18 and 16GB per memory module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO

XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, is available in certain RAM memories, and is supported by certain motherboards.

The Trident Z RGB 16GB DDR4 RAM has (XMP 2.0/EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/EXPO): 3600 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/EXPO): 18-22-22-42
  • Voltage (XMP/EXPO): 1.35V

RGB Lighting

The RGB lighting in the Trident Z series offers all the means and functions to create a unique and impressive look for your computer.

You can achieve this either through the software provided by the company, Trident Z Lighting Control, or with compatibility in Sync Up software provided by motherboard companies. The advantage of Sync Up is that we can synchronize the RGB lighting of the entire computer.

Trident Z is compatible with Asus Aura, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light, and ASRock Polychrome Sync software.

Cooling & Design

The aluminum heatsink material, with its design including fins for heat dissipation, keeps the memory at a fairly low temperature even during the most demanding operations.

If we exclude the financial aspect for all RAM in general. I have been using G.skill RAM for 20 years now and I think they are a perfect match with AMD processors as they are fully reliable. Don't bother with timings and speeds if you are a regular user/gamer or even a streamer, they all do the same job, the differences are nanoseconds of nanoseconds that we can't perceive. G.skill has also released an app now to adjust the RGB.

They were purchased to be installed on an MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk motherboard in combination with an AMD Ryzen 5600x. They are on MSI's support list for this specific motherboard, so it was expected that they would be recognized immediately and by changing their OC profile, they would play directly at 3600, which is exactly what happened. -1 for the price, which I consider slightly high. Their RGB is not annoying, but neither impressive, and depending on the software that manages them, you will get the corresponding result. I don't know how they perform if any overclocking is done beyond the motherboard's profile
