I will not speak using the terms of art criticism, as I am not a critic, nor do I have any fondness for criticism. I will not speak as an aesthetician, because aesthetics is anti-poetic, and, deriving from the rational elements of thought, instead of sharpening, essentially dulls the senses.

I will not speak as a philosopher or sociologist, as it is fashionable today for people completely unqualified in these specialized sciences to do, because philosophy and sociology, as well as politics, are unrelated to poetry and painting, when the very act of their performance is not poetically articulated.

I will speak only as an admirer of Nikolaos Eggonopoulos, our great poet and painter, to sing his praises and to return with projections of an emotional nature the profoundly shocking emotions that his poetry always gives us.

Look at him. [...] [...] Nikolaos Eggonopoulos, most rugged little piece of Elbasan, and soft green lace of the Bosporus, I greet you in Albanian, with my right hand before my heart, and my warm palm extended parallel to any soil I tread upon.

The text by Nikolaos Eggonopoulos or the miracle of Elbasan and the Bosporus was first published in the magazine Tetradio, issue 3, December 1945. The lecture on Nikos Eggonopoulos was given on February 13, 1963, on the occasion of the Exhibition of Works by Nikos Eggonopoulos, at the Athens Technological Institute (ATI) from February 6 to 18, 1963.
