1895: Sherlock Holmes's new client, a judge of the Supreme Court, seeks his help for the disappearance of his charming, cultured, and extremely liberal daughter. Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson discover that the missing girl, Hannah Wolfson, was also searching for Sophia, a close friend of hers who vanished without a trace. From the investigation, it was found that Sophia had been recruited by the group "Elysium," an almost religious sect passionate about ancient Greek myths and rituals, led by the charismatic Sir Philip Buchanan. Holmes discovers that Hannah, wanting to find out what happened to her friend, has already infiltrated the Elysium group under a false name. And while Sherlock Holmes agrees that the girl can remain as his "agent" in the mystical but seemingly harmless cult, Dr. Watson insists that Hannah is in deadly danger. Meanwhile, Sir Philip envisions the reformation of humanity according to classical ideals, without considering the disastrous cost...
An enjoyable mystery novel with outstanding moments of suspense and tension.
