Description

The historical novel I Have Nothing Else to Say... captures and brings to life some critical periods of our country's modern history. It is based on real incidents and events. Its heroes are real figures, as are most of the people involved in its development.

The central character of the novel is the poet Lorentzos Mavilis. A true knight. A fascinating and stormy personality who left strong marks on the historical trajectory of the country with his tumultuous life and patriotism.

In this work, romanticism, patriotism, the willingness to contribute, to sacrifice, to love and to desire, walk hand in hand with political grandeur, but also with the degradation of party intertwining and dependency, which has historically plagued our land.

The era in which Mavilis lived and acted was a turbulent, transitional - socially and politically - period. The poet closely witnessed the vision and efforts of the founder of the modern Greek state, Charilaos Trikoupis. He climbed the mountains of Crete as a volunteer taking part in the Cretan Revolution.

He closely experienced the national humiliation of the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 and the national renaissance brought by the visionary politician Eleftherios Venizelos. He was elected as a deputy and fervently supported the establishment of the demotic language. However, disillusioned by the degradation of party 'customs' and clientelism that plagued political life, he distanced himself.

He stopped engaging in politics and returned to his well-known path of revolutionary contribution for national rights. In 1912, during the Balkan War, at the age of 53, he climbed once again to the mountains of Epirus. He donned the red tunic of the Garibaldini volunteers and went to offer his life.

With pain, his beloved, the poet and actress, Theoni Drakopoulou, parted from him. She believed she would lose him forever. Her premonition was vindicated. Mavilis never returned to her. He was killed while fighting on a hill in Drisko, near Ioannina.

Mavilis's life constitutes for the reader a fascinating and moving journey that leads him to thoughts of self-awareness.
