Audio Decoding

Technologies of sound performance that aim to give the viewer the sensation that the sound surrounds them and is within the scene they are watching.

DTS-HD Master Audio

An improved version of DTS-HD that offers 7.1 channels, meaning 7 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). Unlike DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio does not compress the sound.

Dolby Atmos

Sound technology that uses additional channels for speakers that are located or facing the ceiling to achieve an even better sense that the sound surrounds the user. It requires at least 7 speakers, while with more it can be configured in different ways (e.g. 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 for 9 channels).

Dolby Digital

Sound technology that offers 5.1 channels, meaning 5 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). It has been replaced by technologies with less compression loss (Dolby Digital+) or no compression loss at all (Dolby TrueHD) and more channels.

Dolby Digital+

Improved version of Dolby Digital that offers 7.1 channels, meaning 7 separate channels for regular speakers and 1 for low frequencies (subwoofer). It uses sound compression with less loss compared to Dolby Digital, but not at all like Dolby TrueHD.
