This small volume brings together theatrical studies that are partly connected with specific publications by other scholars and partly have a broader perspective. They cover both the theoretical and methodological field of theater studies, raising broader concerns about the role of theater in society, its reception, the relationship between stage and dramatic text, the desired pedagogical objectives of university teaching in the field, as well as the field of historiography, illuminating thematic aspects of social theater, verbal improvisation, the role of naturalness in acting schools and nature in theatrical scenography, as well as the political role of stage art at specific historical moments. It covers the medieval years, the Renaissance, the Baroque, the Enlightenment, Romanticism, the pre-revolutionary years before 1821, and partly the 19th and 20th centuries. The specific themes extend both to the international realm of European theater and the Balkans, with particular emphasis on Greece.
