The presence in the Greek territory during the past century of a Phanariot like Alexandros Rizos Rangavias (1809-1892) was undoubtedly very significant for society.
Archaeology - Literature - Diplomacy - Politics were the most important pursuits that yielded remarkable results in the field of knowledge on one hand, and in promoting the cause of Hellenism in the international arena on the other hand.
Through his multifaceted activities, characteristic of the worthy minds of the era, Rangavias left a diverse body of work. Literary texts, philological contributions, significant written statements (reports) on educational issues in our country, issues of cultural content (Academy of Athens, National Theater, etc.), charitable matters (Athens Foundling Hospital), and primarily studies on the "eternal" Eastern question, the Balkans, and the Macedonian issue in relation to our country, all of these remain so relevant and useful today that they deserve careful study.
