A final, Class D with its initial stages in Class A, made by a veteran of the genre, Peter Madnick, who doesn't catch your eye but truly speaks from the heart and "handles" even really difficult speakers with ease (personally, I have it with 4 ohms at 87db from the same company and they fit like a glove...)... The construction initially, to the eye, looks a bit cheap but ultimately deceives as it is a quite well-built machine with a decent weight that was made to last for years, although a bit unsightly for some... Its slim profile saves the situation as do the retro volume meters, reminiscent of tape recorders from other times... A slightly more impressive display wouldn't bother me but let's not exaggerate...
Many conveniences and connections that are missing from many finals truly make the user's life much easier, especially for those who want to set up a 2-in-1 system, providing connections for both RCA and XLR and having the magic switch button on the front (and not the back like in most finals which makes switching difficult)... The other magic button (see gain) makes it an ideal combination for all AV amplifiers, but also for preamplifiers from other companies besides its sibling Elac Alchemy DDP 2 which is its ideal pair (personally, I have the set of two with very good results that I would say exceed the price category by a lot)... Attention to the interconnect cable as a quality cable (XLR) will highlight both the sound quality and the good synergy of the two devices.
The sound is very musical, quite neutral, dynamic, analytical, fast, and clear, neither sweet nor bright, just enough to make it ideal for all listening and for combinations with different speakers, with different styles... As for power, dynamics, and currents, no question (although it "delivers" in a slightly different way than a Class AB, as it can push up to 80-85% without distortion)...
A serious final amplifier without any loud brand name and flashy appearance, but with substance and indeed very VFM!!!
