The reform effort in the field of educational policy and the parallel emergence of the necessity for its democratic modernization are undoubtedly urgent needs of the Greek reality and beyond.
The purpose of this study is to present the difficulties that arise within each reform effort so that the University can respond to the demands of its times and the challenges of the globalized society environment.
Our goal, therefore, is to collect, classify, present, and comment on the reforms concerning Greek higher education from the post-junta period to the present day, and to highlight the importance of democratization, which must be a major objective and a continual demand, both in the educational and the socio-political field.
The universally acknowledged crisis of higher education in the context of the globalized society makes the development of fruitful and productive reflection on the new role of the University, the ideals it will serve, and the value system it will uphold an urgent requirement.
