Description
Full-frame Stacked CMOS Sensor with Integrated Memory
The α9 II is a mirrorless camera with next-generation high-speed performance that far surpasses SLRs. It is equipped with the exceptional 35 mm Stacked CMOS image sensor with built-in memory, for impressively fast overall readout speed. This 24.2 MP image sensor achieves high sensitivity up to ISO 204800 (after expansion) with a back-illuminated structure design.
Fast BIONZ X image processing system
The camera's image processing algorithms are the result of the most advanced developments, offering higher levels of natural color gradations and more stable automatic white balance for continuous shooting.
Unparalleled Image Quality
The combination of the 24.2 active megapixel full-frame Stacked CMOS image sensor, with built-in memory, and the latest generation BIONZ X makes possible the high sensitivity ISO 51200 performance, high dynamic range, and support for 14-bit RAW output and 16-bit image processing. Their combined operation helps capture the maximum degree of detail and image quality, reproducing rich tonal gradations and natural colors, such as human skin tones.
Incredibly Fast Continuous Shooting
Thanks to the incredible speed of the α9 II, there is the possibility of continuous shooting at up to 20 fps with the electronic shutter and up to 10 fps with the mechanical shutter, for capturing fast-moving subjects in any shutter mode. Additionally, even at the highest speed, the flash can synchronize with the mechanical shutter.
Autofocus / auto exposure calculations up to 60 times/sec
Autofocus/auto exposure is calculated up to 60 times per second and occurs almost continuously, both during image composition and shutter release. Continuous autofocus/auto exposure, running on the image sensor, locks onto subjects that move unpredictably and tracks them with high speed, accuracy, and reliability. Additionally, with the auto white balance lock feature, the locking/unlocking of the auto white balance function can be done at any time, which is useful in mixed lighting conditions where natural and artificial light sources coexist. Capture without underexposure with Quad-VGA OLED Tru-FinderTM
In continuous shooting, the electronic shutter system eliminates underexposure interruption, which is common in optical viewfinders, and the high-speed image sensor eliminates the display lag of the electronic viewfinder. The high refresh rate at 120 fps minimizes image blur of moving subjects, the Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder with high resolution of approximately 3.68 million dots utilizes ZEISS® T* coating to reduce reflections, while the fluorine coating on the outer lens repels contaminants and facilitates use. Evaluation function and Image Jump setting
There is a possibility to rate photos from 1 to 5 stars, which remains on the images when importing them into the Imaging Edge TM (Viewer) computer application on a PC. This function, as well as the protection function that prevents accidental deletion of images, can be assigned to a custom button (protection is set to C3 by default). Rating and protection can be applied through the playback review display, and you can review, protect, and delete groups of continuous shooting on the spot or when traveling. With the Image Jump setting, you can also review large photo collections, jumping by 10 or 100 frames, as well as group review of burst shots, for quick and efficient image evaluation.
Silent Shooting
Explore the benefits of silent high-speed shooting with a fully digital shutter, without a mechanical system. The electronic shutter allows for silent shooting, without the noise of a mechanical mirror and shutter. It is ideal for sports and subjects that require silent operation, significantly extending the camera's versatility.
Flicker-Free Shots
The flickering from fluorescent light and other artificial lighting is automatically detected and the shutter action is synchronized to minimize the effect of flickering on photos. This suppresses exposure and color anomalies at the top and bottom of images in high shutter speed shots, as well as exposure and color inconsistency between continuous shots, allowing you to take photos indoors with greater confidence.
4D FOCUS: from wide autofocus coverage, speed and tracking stability
4D FOCUS means high-precision subject detection, reliable fast autofocus, and continuous tracking of moving subjects, based on uninterrupted autofocus with an optimized algorithm, as well as autofocus coverage of approximately 93%, with 693 phase-detection autofocus points on the focal plane, which track the random movement of the subject, even during shutter release.
Real-time monitoring
Real-time tracking technology uses artificial intelligence to distinguish moving subjects from the multitude of data detected by the image sensor. Spatial data consisting of color, pattern (brightness), and distance information are processed in parallel at high speed, while continuously detecting the position data of faces and eyes, humans and animals, in real-time with artificial intelligence, achieving automatic detection and high-precision tracking performance on moving subjects.
Real-time Eye Autofocus for Humans and Animals
Real-time eye autofocus relies on advanced artificial intelligence for continuous analysis and detection of eyes from the vast data of the image sensor, with the ability to prefer the left or right eye with a simple switch. By pressing the shutter button halfway, even animal eyes are detected. Combine with real-time tracking for superior performance in tracking live subjects.
Autofocus remains accurate even in low light EV-3.
The autofocus in low light reaches up to EV-3 at ISO 100. The focus priority setting in the aperture guide provides more accurate focusing in low light and with a small aperture, resulting in the precision autofocus system working correctly, even when shooting dimly lit scenes. A feature that opens new horizons in night and low-light photography.
User-selectable focus area adjustment and control
A new setting allows the rotation of the focus area at the top, bottom, left, and right edge of the frame, so that the appropriate focus area can be selected for sports or other situations where the subject moves a lot within the frame. The autofocus area and ISO display restriction feature offers the ability to view only the most frequently used focus area and ISO settings, for more immediate, easier selection and faster, more efficient shots.
5-axis in-body image stabilization
The built-in image stabilization system is calibrated to accurately compensate for camera shake on 5 axes, which can degrade handheld shots. This way, you enjoy exceptionally high performance in both photos and movies, whether it's for longer focal lengths, close-ups, or night shots. It is equivalent to a higher shutter speed at 5.5 steps, and offers the ability to consistently frame compositions when capturing high-speed moving subjects. Thanks to the live view function, you can monitor the results in real-time. (1) Yaw (2) Pitch (3) Roll
Shutter durability and image stabilization
The shutter has undergone durability tests with over 500,000 shutter release cycles and features an internal damper structure that absorbs the vibrations of the shutter movement, minimizing vibrations and noise while providing sharper image resolution.
Two media slots, both with UHS-II support
The α9 II features two media slots for SD cards, both of which are now compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II, for fast recording of very large volumes of data. Two cards in the slots can be used for simultaneous or sequential data recording, for separating RAW data from JPEG or photos from movies, as well as for copying data from one card to another. The sliding lock mechanism prevents accidental opening of the memory card cover.
