It is normal to worry from time to time about various things, but if our worries get out of control, we may end up experiencing stress and depression, as well as high blood pressure and poor sleep quality. The good news is that you don't have to succumb to your worries. Although all the tips in this book will help you live a simpler and less stressful life, this chapter includes specific ways to overcome your worries and relax. Whether you can't sleep because you're thinking about a job interview or you're concerned about a difficult decision, take action now to dispel your anxiety.
The first step in managing your worries is to identify what they are. Take a notebook and write down the things that clutter your mind throughout the week. Take action whenever you find the opportunity! If you're worried about a specific situation, such as an exam, plan, prepare, and then relax knowing you're doing your best. If you're anxious about commuting to work by public transportation, find ways to change that.
If you're concerned about a complicated relationship, take steps to improve things or cut ties (see the chapter "Less Stressful Relationships"). To address more generalized anxiety, see page 28.
