Description

Description

The MOTU M2 is the ideal choice for the Home Studio, featuring USB-C, ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology, optimized drivers, and exceptionally low latency.

Sound Quality

Equipped with the same ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ DAC technology found in sound cards costing thousands, the M2 offers an impressive 120 dB dynamic range on its main outputs.

The ESS converters also drive the headphone output, which rivals dedicated headphone amplifiers costing hundreds of euros. The ultra-clean preamp circuits deliver -129 dBu EIN on the microphone inputs. Record and monitor your sound with exceptional clarity.

Speed

The M2 provides the best-in-class speed for monitoring inputs (microphone, guitar, or keyboard) through your computer, thanks to MOTU's USB drivers, which offer top-notch, ultra-low round-trip latency of 2.5 ms (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample buffer).

Measurement

When recording and mixing, nothing is more critical than achieving optimal levels. The M2 is the only sound card in its class with a color LCD screen that features clear, detailed level meters for all inputs and outputs.

A tradition of engineering excellence

Decades of award-winning product engineering with successful songs, major tours, primetime shows, and blockbuster movies are incorporated into every MOTU sound card.

MOTU did what it was missing: it created a good quality product, with professional converters, at a reasonable budget, for all-around applications. It is ideal for guitar-bass, keyboards, but also for live use, as its latency is extremely low.
Setup is easy, with detailed instructions on the site for both Mac and PC. I used it with guitar and vocals, using plug-ins (Neural DSP, etc.), and it responds perfectly. A big plus is the headphone output, which shows that it has a powerful preamp, reaching quite high volume without a problem. The level indicator panel, although digital, responds perfectly.

Terrible, I threw away 250€ plus the microphone preamp, I got it for live streaming on YouTube, TikTok, the volume is terrible from the middle and a bit of the gain my DT 770 80 OHM headphones make noise, for so much money for the card they should have taken care of it, I have a MACKIE console it sounds perfect. I record and hear noise, on the MACKIE console it's dead silent, nothing. I open a LIVE on TikTok and there's noise during the live. I threw away 250 euros. I didn't know.

there is no competitor at the same price! it is amazing and if you connect good speakers and an amplifier or good headphones you hear a lot of detail...for the reason that I use it for synth and recording vocals or guitar it is almost excellent!

I have gone through almost all the cards of the same category as the MOTU M2. I consider it the best of all, by far! I use it for remastering and its quality is top-notch!

coming from Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen - Much better and much lower latency without glitching like the Focusrite did, and with Loopback I can record video and audio at the same time without needing to change the Motu USB Asio driver - Used in FL Studio.

It gives better power to my headphones (DT 880 Pro) while the Focusrite needed extra amplification with a headphone amp. Very autonomous and quality build, super easy driver installation, and the audio spectrum is very useful and better than the colored indicators of the Focusrite.

I plugged in the Adam T5V with balanced jacks at the back
I plugged in the NT1-a microphone at the front

Excellent in everything. I will come back if I encounter any problem, though I don't think I will.

    16/7/2025 Update
    Still excellent with no problems.

I work with Yamaha HS7 in Cubase and the result is quite good.
It doesn't freeze anywhere and the card never.
The installation is very easy, you just plug in the USB and it immediately recognizes it, no settings or anything.

Only the name MOTU shows the quality in this specific category of sound cards. Coming from the focusrite scarlet solo 2nd gen, I can confidently say that the motu m2 is on another level, as it doesn't glitch, doesn't have noise, and overall, in collaboration with ableton live 10, the latency dropped to 3ms from the 12ms that the focusrite had. The most important thing is that it doesn't increase the CPU usage.
