The familiar Greek traditional music at the level of collective musical life continues to remain, as it seems, an "unknown land" at the level of formal educational practice.

The driving force behind these publications is to equip young musicians, who are at the initial stage of learning the instrument, with the type of material that will allow them to practice the rhythms and melodies of traditional musical art. The fertilization of musical imagination is the constant goal.

The key elements of these arrangements are:

(a) the adoption of a stripped-down version of the melody.

(b) the emphasis on the monophonic texture.

(c) the drastic limitation of harmonic movement, since rich harmony is "alien" to the traditional style.

(d) the balanced alternating of melodic phrases between the two hands, as well as the indication of suggested fingerings.
