Description

Description

The revision of the Architectural Designs consists of a new vertical format and additional designs that aid in the processing and explain with examples the principles outlined in the previous edition.

It retains the original text, designs, and spirit of the first two editions and remains an introductory text flexible enough to be adapted to a range of design classes and programs. The purpose of this alphabet is to introduce the beginner student to a series of design tools available for conveying architectural ideas.

The central idea behind this creation is that design is an integral part of the design process, an important tool that equips the designer with the means not only to present an idea but also to communicate within their design workshop with themselves and with others. Here, it is important to emphasize that design communication requires both intellectual abilities and manual dexterity.

We must acknowledge that the designs, the tangible product that always occupies us, are in themselves the result of a design process, a careful analysis of why, when, and where a design technique is employed, as well as the execution of the technique. Each chapter presents different design assumptions and techniques and explains the logic behind their use.

The sequence of sections does not imply a specific order in covering the material, but rather seeks to structure the field of architectural designs in an understandable form. This text does not aim to become the alphabet of design nor the handbook of complex rendering techniques. No specific design style is emphasized or encouraged. Our design practices inevitably develop their own style through practice and experience.
