Description

Digital technologies no longer assist businesses and organizations solely in increasing their operational efficiency. They support business transformation through extensive, designed business processes, such as the comprehensive service of customers/citizens throughout their lifecycle and regardless of the channel. They also support the creation of new services and business models, which either redefine the value chain of specific sectors or create new business sectors.

The purpose of this book is to analyze the digital environment and explore the emerging digital changes due to technological advancements, citizens' needs, and business strategies, with an emphasis on Greece. The chapters are distributed into four parts:

The first part concerns digital transformation at the level of service, operational processes, and business model. It analyzes digital innovations, new digital business models, the necessary corporate culture in digital organizations, new sectoral transformations such as digital platforms, new processes like customer service, and the transformative capabilities brought about by digital technologies such as big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), etc.

The second part addresses the connection between digital technologies and business strategies and developments at the sectoral level. Specifically, it examines how digital technologies affect the structure and future of significant sectors of the economy, such as industry, retail, banking, transportation, logistics, as well as small companies.

The third part focuses on the necessary policies for the proper functioning and sustainability of the emerging digital environment. It analyzes the developmental opportunities, as well as the risks of the digital revolution, the organized strategic framework for digital Greece, the important parameters of electronic governance, necessary digital skills, the development of e-commerce, the safeguarding of privacy, and the utilization of IT research projects.

The fourth part deals with the digital technologies and systems that support the digital future, such as ERP systems, digital marketing systems, business analytics, data mining techniques, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and gamification systems.

The book is published on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the operation of the Laboratory for Electronic Commerce and E-Business (ELTRUN) of the Athens University of Economics and Business. The authors are researchers, academics, executives, and entrepreneurs who have worked or collaborated with ELTRUN over these 25 years on various research/development projects and/or initiatives concerning a sustainable digital future.
