The systematic interpretation of the Dogmatic and Symbolic texts of the Orthodox Eastern Church, integrated into the curriculum for students of the Pastoral Department of the Theological School of AUTH, aims to explore and understand the teachings of the Ecumenical Councils as an expression of ecclesiastical faith with precision and diligence.
This interpretation must be an awareness and affirmation of our ecclesiastical tradition and life as a preparation and participation in the Holy Spirit in the mystery of the divine Eucharist, as our Savior and Lord of all delivered. From this perspective, the content of tradition acts dynamically, uniting the tested past with the historical present in a process of handing down and receiving.
In this context, resorting to tradition, that is, to the faith of the holy Prophets, Apostles, and Martyrs, constitutes a living reality for the Orthodox Church, which boasts of being the Church of Fathers and Teachers, for whom the world was not worthy.
The handheld study represents a first attempt to provide theological commentary on the decisions of the First and Second Ecumenical Councils with a prospect of including not only the texts of the remaining Ecumenical Councils but also those of the so-called secondary dogmatic texts, hoping to provide a minimal incentive for the study of the written tradition and experience of our Church.
